Half way through my month off at home and I received an email asking me to head out to Qatar to work on another project as opposed to travelling back to Senegal. As explained in my previous blog post this was not my first time in the Middle East but it was my first time in Qatar. I was yet to escape the hot weather but it was nothing compared to the 50C+ the guys had to endure in Abu Dhabi during mobilisation.
The vessel I was working on this swing was the Nautical Geo. Most certainly not the biggest or most glamorous vessel I have worked on but it was home for the next month. The most challenging aspect of life onboard this vessel was the lack of gym or recreational facilities - I most certainly won't take these for granted in the future. Once you have finished a 12hr shift its not to either blow off some steam in the gym or socialise with the colleagues but unfortunately neither was possible, straight to my cabin I went.
As always I was working with a great group of guys and even better I had a fellow female onboard this swing. Working with easy going hard working individuals makes all the difference when working offshore ,makes the time away so much more enjoyable. I love the fact that I can sincerely say that I work with people that I classify as not just colleagues but friends. During this swing PROD was performing well, Benthic productivity levels were great and as always we were collecting some fantastic data and samples for the client.
The Persian Gulf is a very busy oil field, we were surrounded by platforms at all of our exploratory location which actually made a nice change to just the horizon in the background. The weather was extremely calm and we witnessed some of the most amazing sunsets on a daily basis. As a result of working until the end of November I am fortunately home for Christmas this year which I am super excited about. I am a huge Christmas fan, having a Danish father and an English mother means my family and I get two Christmas's a year 24th & 25th December. I am extremely family orientated so I love this time of year especially as we all get to spend some serious quality time together which is hard throughout the year as we all have extremely busy schedules.
Since being home I have seen lots of friends and chatted about my time away recently which has sparked an idea for my next blog post - The truths of working offshore, the pros and cons. I will be publishing this post in the coming days and I will be creating an complementing VLOG on the offshore blondie youtube channel. I look forward to you all having a read and letting me know your pros and cons of not only working offshore but whatever job you do for a living.
